NOVEMBER 2017 SKYLINER SCHEDULE


Nov 1, Wednesday: Social Trail off Dogie Trail
Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy
Description: trailhead is 11 miles of dirt road at end of FR 525C, off 89A
Meet: 0800 in Cottonwood Office Max Parking lot, outer perimeter

November 4, Saturday: Grand Canyon-South Kaibab/Tonto/Bright Angel
Distance: 14 mile loop
Difficulty: Difficult, 3500' elevation change twice (once down, once up).
Description: We will catch a bus to the South Kaibab trailhead and leave the trailhead at about 6:30am, descend to the Tonto trail (about 5 miles), go west on Tonto about 4 miles to Indian Gardens and hike up the Bright Angel trail (about 5 miles). You will need to stay somewhere in Tusayan or in Grand Canyon National Park or leave the Cottonwood area about 4am in order to get there in time. Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: easy inclines
Description: trailhead is on Zalesky Rd.

November 11, Saturday: Rosies Volcano
Distance: Distance: 4 miles
Difficulty: Elevation gain: 500 feet; one steep climb
Description: The trail starts at the 55+ community next to Sedona Pines. From the trial head climb to the top of Rosies Volcano and then back down to a saddle and across to a group of red rock spires and then return to the trailhead. One steep section approx 400' climb.

Nov. 15, Wednesday: Sketch trail
Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy incline
Description: trailhead is off Red Rock Loop Rd.

November 18, Saturday: Huckaby
Distance: 5.8 miles (if we cross Oak Creek)/4.6 miles (if we don't cross Oak Creek)
Difficulty: Ascent: 651 ft.; Descent: 567 ft.; Highest elev.: 4541 ft.
Description: Park at Huckaby Trailhead off Schnebly Hill Road, hike across Bear Wallow Canyon, along the slope of Mitten Ridge and follow Oak Creek (possibly crossing it) to Midgley Bridge

Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy

November 25, Saturday: Sycamore Canyon to Parson Springs
Distance: 7.3 miles round trip
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Description: Take Main St through Old Town Cottonwood turning right on Tuzigoot Rd, cross the Verde River and turn left on N. Sycamore Canyon Rd. Travel 10.3 miles to the trailhead. We will hike to Parson Springs and return same route. Six water crossings each way.
