OCTOBER 2017 SKYLINERS SCHEDULE


Note: All Wednesday hikes meet at 0800 and all Sat hikes meet at 0700 in Oct.

Oct. 4: Fay Canyon – Wednesday Walk
Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy
Description: trailhead is off FR 152C, west of Sedona
Meet: 0800 in Cottonwood Office Max Parking lot, outer perimeter

October 7: Willow Springs Loop
Distance: 5.6 miles
Difficulty: Essentially level, elevation 6600 feet
Description: Hike from Willow Springs Road near Blowout Tank to Thomas Point Trailhead at the rim of Oak Creek Canyon, mostly through forest and along old roads.
Meet: 0700 at Cottonwood Safeway parking lot, outer perimeter, across from Office Max

Oct. 11: FR 106D, Woodchute Mt – Wednesday Walk
Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy
Description: trailhead is at the end of FR106 on Woodchute Mt.

October 14: Fisher Point via Sandys Canyon
Distance: 7.0 miles
Difficulty: 732 elevation change (6203 to 7034)
Description: From Sandys Canyon Trailhead off St Marys Road, descend into Sandys Canyon and join the Arizona Trail to skunk Canyon at Fisher Point.  Travel up Walnut Canyon for a short distance then return and climb to Fisher Point Vista.

Oct. 18: Wilson Canyon – Wednesday Walk
Distance: 2.5 miles
Difficulty: easy
Description: trailhead is at Midgley Bridge, Sedona

October 21: Cowpies-Casner-Munds Wagon Trail Loop
Distance: 8.0 miles
Difficulty: 1503 Elevation change (4487 to 5990).  The trail is described as precarious in places.
Description: Start at the Cowpies Trailhead in Schnebly Hill Road, take Cowpies Trail to Mitten Ridge Gap, cross through the gap and take a trail (Damfino?) to the right.  Follow that trail to the bottom of Casner Canyon and connect with Casner Canyon Trail to climb to the rim and connect with Munds Wagon Trail for the trip back.

Oct. 25: Sedona Airport upper trail – Wednesday Walk
Distance: 2 miles
Difficulty: easy
Description: trailhead is just below the parking lot on mesa top
Meet: 0800 in Cottonwood Office Max Parking lot, outer perimeter

Oct 28: Bear Mountain
Distance: 5.5 miles
Difficulty: Elevation gain: 1800 feet; some near vertical climbs
Description: About 0.25 miles from the parking lot, the trail starts a 450-foot switchback that is steep and rocky in places.  Then, after crossing a narrow plateau, it starts a steep 500-foot climb in a narrow side canyon, a trip across a broad plateau, a 400-foot climb to a false summit and, finally, a more moderate climb to the actual summit.
